[Derby] Derby 150 Thoughts
Good afternoon to all,
As always, an exciting day of racing on Kentucky Derby day at Churchill
Downs! Thus far today, the track has been playing to early speed. There
appears to be plenty of early speed in the Derby this year, and while if
#17 Fierceness can repeat his Florida Derby performance he will be the most
likely winner, I am betting against the horse based on his form cycle, and
his propensity to bounce after a great effort. Will definitely use him on
my ticket in spread plays, but he isn’t my top pick.
I am going with a big number today in the Derby, #14 Endlessly, the winner
of the Jeff Ruby Steaks-G3 at Turfway last out. What I like about this one
is that he can be closer or further back and still puts in a big effort.
He is making his first start over a dirt course, which is certainly a big
ask, but I’m willing to take that risk at a big price. He’s had one subpar
effort, and that was in the BC Juvenile Turf-G1 last out. This is
certainly a step up today for the horse, but he displayed what I felt was a
powerful turn of foot in the stretch at Turfway, and I think the trip
should suit him. There are question marks, but at a big price, I’m
gambling.
Blessings,
Greg R.
Make it a great day on purpose!
